I hope you have managed to stay safe and well! We focus on resolving tax issues in Prince William County and throughout the lower Northern Virginia area.
During the spring, both the IRS and Treasury announced that the deadline to file your 1040s AND PAY your individual federal income tax for the tax year of 2019 (without penalties and interest) had been extended to July 15, 2020.
Many states extended their deadlines as well (Sorry if you’re a Virginia (VA) Resident, your state was not one of them); feel free to contact me directly if you have not determined the deadline applicable to you if you live in a state/jurisdiction other than VA that requires state income tax filing and payment. For my VA clients:
- Just for reference VA tax filing deadline was May 1, but you had until June 1 to pay your VA income tax without penalty, although you would still owe interest if you paid between May 1 and June 1.
If you feel as though you cannot file your return by July 15, 2020, I can help you file an extension for time to file through October 15, 2020. However, the tax payment is still due by July 15.
If you are due a refund, I encourage you to file as soon as possible so you can get that timely cash influx into your account as early as possible.
For a while it seemed as though the tax deadline would never come this year. But with less than 15 days left to comply with the deadline, the clock is definitely counting down. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. https://brtaxaccountant.com/
